Seasonal Self Care with Essential Oils
Five years ago, I read a book called Staying Healthy With the Seasons that shifted my life in a harmonious way.  I had been using yoga and essential oils as invaluable tools in facilitating the balance of mind and body; then, after reading this book, I began to additionally weave in the beautiful aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine, its harmony with the natural cycle of the seasons, and its relation to the 5-Element theory, and this is what inspired my hand-crafted seasonal self-care set of rollers for feet and spine.

Why roll essential oils on the feet and spine?

Applying essential oils to the feet and spine is one of the most direct ways to get their supportive properties flowing throughout your body. Additionally, the soles of the feet have large pores that allow for rapid absorption and easy access points for energetic pathways that travel up into your nervous system.

Winter:
Lavender & Cypress
Grounding, Rest, Kidneys & Bladder
The emotions and organs associated with winter in Traditional Chinese Medicine
are the kidneys and bladder and the associated emotions of fear, anxiety, and worry.  This blend encourages grounding, restful sleep, and relaxation.  The essential oils of lavender and cypress work together to nourish Yin energy, promote grounding, reduce stress, and soothe emotions.

Spring:
Release & Frankincense
Movement, Expansion, Liver & Gallbladder
The emotions and organs associated with the spring season in TCB are the Liver and Gallbladder and the related emotions of anger, frustration, irritability, or judgment. This blend encourages movement and expansion. The essential oils of frankincense and the Release blend are combined to reduce feelings of stagnation, enhance clarity of thought, and promote relaxation and peace of mind.

Summer:
Joy & Citrus
Creative, Joyous, Heart
The emotions and organs associated with summer in TCM are related to the heart. The summer roller is a Joy & Citrus blend that uses essential oils of orange, bergamot, and geranium to open the heart with joy and creativity; while relaxing tensions throughout the body. Orange oil is anti-inflammatory, and its aroma is uplifting and energizing. Bergamot helps to reduce stress and anxiety, while geranium encourages us to be more accepting of ourselves and our lives.

Autumn:
Peppermint & Eucalyptus
Letting Go, Lungs  & Large Intestine
Autumn is associated with the lungs and large intestine in TCM. The autumn roller uses essential oils of peppermint and eucalyptus to help us let go of what is no longer useful or necessary; while allowing us to take a deep breath and open up to new possibilities. Peppermint oil is anti-inflammatory, and its aroma helps to clear the sinuses while energizing us. Eucalyptus can help open up our lungs and increase oxygen flow throughout the body. This blend encourages us to be present in the moment, trusting that everything will work out in its own time.
